FUTO, Nigeria’s oldest University of Technology, was established in 1980 by executive order from Nigeria’s First Executive President, Shehu Shagari. It was the first of three such universities set up by the Federal Government to establish a University of Technology in each geo-political region, especially in states lacking conventional universities.

Opening its doors on November 28, 1980, at the Old Government Technical College (GTC) premises, FUTO officially started operations. In January 1982, the Imo State government designated a permanent site for the university, located 25 kilometers south of Owerri.

The site was selected based on advice from the National Universities Commission, considering factors like size and minimal human settlements.

FUTO is surrounded by several autonomous communities and homesteads, all of which contributed land for the university’s development. These include Ihiagwa, Obinze, Umuoma, Nekede, Eziobodo, Avu, Okolochi, Obibiezena, and Emeabiam.

The university is intersected by a new road connecting Obinze and Naze, with the Otamiri River running through the site from North to South, providing a significant natural feature along with its surrounding vegetation.

Requirements For FUTO Post UTME Form 2024/2025

To be eligible for FUTO’s Post UTME screening:

• FUTO must be your first-choice institution.
• Obtain a minimum score of 160 in the UTME examination.
• Have a minimum of five (5) credits in O’Level results from WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB, including English Language and Mathematics.
• Ensure your O’level results are obtained in not more than two (2) sittings.
• Meet the age requirement of at least 16 years old for admission into FUTO.

FUTO Direct Entry Screening 2024/2025

The 2024/2025 Post-UTME and Direct Entry Screening will use verified JAMB scores and uploaded WAEC/GCE/NECO results from JAMB CAPS. Ensure your O’Level results are uploaded on JAMB PORTAL by October 31st, 2024, to qualify.

Only online applications submitted successfully will be considered for admission. Direct Entry candidates must submit academic transcripts to FUTO’s Registrar by October 31st, 2024, or risk exclusion from admission.
